These Are my Global studies reflections

In these reflections I talk about my experiences with certain Speakers we have had at the school or gone and seen as a Global studies event

Onika Raymond

During Onika's time here at the school I really enjoyed how she shared her experiences of traveling around the world. More specifically there were a couple key points that she made that I believe to be very valuable. The first one was how she emphasised and highlighted the fact that you don't need to be rich in order to travel and experience the world. This was very intriguing because to a lot of people think that traveling the world or exploring foreign countries is out of there reach for financial reasons. But she did a really good job of explaining that there are budget friendly ways to become experienced in traveling the world, It's not for everybody but it is definitely possible to travel more than what you may have first thought. The second point I think she made that was really key was in our global studies class. She described her situation in Egypt and feeling very suspicious about a man who she believed to be a thief.  However, She later realized that she had judged this man far to quick and didn't even give him time to show his true character. The message that this portrayed was very similar to an old saying that goes never judge a man before walking a million miles in his shoes. I believe that this idea of not judging someone prematurely is key in both travel and life at home or here at Watkinson. Ultimately, I really enjoyed learning about her and what she had to say about traveling the world.

Justice Byrer

At first I was a little nervous going into this event. I thought that Mr, Bryer was going to be talking a lot about the liberal agenda that he and the other democratic judges supported. However it was completely different. He did a very good job of explaining more of what goes on and how they approach issues then how he felt about them. I also believe he highlighted a key point that maybe a lot of people didn't understand. That was that, In his position he's not voting or deciding what's right or wrong based on his personal view regardless of what they are, his job is to rule if something is constitutional or not and then its up for other people to determine how that's interpreted. Ultimately. I really enjoyed this talk and thought that it was very informative.

Caitlin Wolfe

During her short talk during club time I was able to learn some things about what she does that I never knew before. Although her talk was short I think that many of the things that she said were very meaningful. One of the main things that I remember her talking about was how the United states is very prepared incase there ever was a breakout infection here. She also talked about how with climate change it is making certain diseases more likely to spread to the U.S. one specific case was that there were mosquitoes found in florida that are normally found in south america and they have the abilities to carry more harmful diseases. Personally I didn't take to much away from this discussion mainly because it was a very short talk.

Adam alter

During the skype call I was very interested in hearing what Mr, Alter had to say as far as his opinions on technology were concerned. In the book I felt like he had a very firm stance on how he felt and to me it sounded like he was against technology all together. However, in this talk with him I realized that he had a slightly different viewpoint. He seemed like he wasn't concerned with stopping the addiction but more so pointing it out and allowing people to make there own choices. He also told us that he believes in the use of technology for education which to me was surprising considering that he was concerned about the time we spent on screens. In conclusion, I really enjoyed this talk with him and think that the way he explained how he felt was very well put and I really liked that he didn't try to force his opinions on use and try to persuade us to use technology less.
